A Visit to Radio City Music Hall

My friend Erin and four of her friends came to New York to experience this festive city during the holidays.   Several years before this group of ladies went on the “Sex and the City” tour.  They ALL wore heels, “Carrie Bradshaw” style.  I loved that story and after decided I too wanted to go on that tour; so, in 2014, Anna Marie brought me to New York and that’s just what we did. Not in heels, of course!  It was sneakers for us.

On this trip seeing the Rockettes was high on their list, and they invited me to join them. I walked to Midtown on this beautiful day and clocked in 18,616 steps or 7.9 miles.

Before going to the 8 p.m. show, I met Erin and her friends at the bar in their hotel.  It is a cozy little spot that you have to really walk into and look for, otherwise you would never know it’s there.  The cocktail lounge (a more accurate term as opposed to “bar”) was the perfect setting for drinks and appetizers.  I would certainly recommend The Iroquois Hotel; it is  on 44th, near 5th Avenue . It was crowded, but because it is so small it was still quite comfortable and a nice little get-a-way.

From there we walked to Radio City Music Hall.  Denise was the “Guest Rockette” for the evening, or so she thought.  By this point we thought we were hilarious!

We went through the security line and within two minutes I took these photos.  It was at this point I realized I only had one glove.  ONE.  GLOVE.  Oh, oh! Can you just imagine what a tizzy I went into?

I traced my steps (few as they were) to no avail.  They told me to check with Lost & Found but honestly it had JUST happened.  We needed to get to our seats so Erin said she would go with me after the show.

It was a spectacular show; it never disappoints!  I had seen it for the first time in 2014 when I came with the Vermont 6.

Side Note: The Rockettes are precision dancers. The word “precision” is not lightly used; it was perfection.  This dance company was founded in 1925 in St. Louis, but they have been dancing at Radio City Music Hall in NYC since 1932.  That is quite a run and, in my opinion, says it all.

True to her word, Erin went with me to the Lost & Found. I almost fell over when I realized they had it.  Dear reader, you can only imagine how happy I was after reading about some of my other experiences of losing things. This was one less thing for me to obsess about.  I was so thrilled I asked if the agent would take a photo with me.
After the show we all felt we needed at least one more drink, so I recommended Monkey Bar.  The place was so packed on this Thursday night they didn’t even let us in.  The bouncer recommended “Papillon” just down the street.  Although this too was packed, we managed to squeeze our way into the bar. Eventually we had our own private area at the end of the bar.

Take a close look at the decorations in the background.  Take my word for it, this bar and restaurant – deceivingly large – was decorated to the hilt.  We all commented on the sheer amount of “everything Christmas”.  It was as if the store “Michaels” vomited all over the place.  It was a great ending to a wonderful evening.
